Dounreay workers have completed the clean up of the first of Dounreay’s fuel ponds. As well as being a first for Dounreay, it is also the first pond at a Scottish nuclear facility to be decommissioned, and one of the first in the UK. Read it all..

As at 1.00 p.m. (London time) on 5 December 2008 (being the first closing date of the Offers), Lake Acquisitions (acting for EDF) had received valid acceptances in respect of 644,291,988 British Energy Ordinary Shares representing 62.19 per cent. of the current issued share capital of British Energy. Rolls-Royce today announced plans to work together with AREVA, the French nuclear power plant and services provider, on jointly agreed programmes which will see the first new nuclear reactors built in the UK for over 20 years. Nuclear power is cost competitive with conventional fossil fuel generation. This is true even when decommissioning costs and possible fuel price increases due to increased uranium demand are allowed for.
