Magnox North’s Wylfa Power Station has been awarded the most prestigious health and safety accolade – The British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour.Magnox North Ltd, who manage the Wylfa site on behalf of the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, were presented with the sword at a ceremony in London’s Goldsmiths Hall, with the Minister for Heath and Safety, Lord McKenzie of Luton, in attendance.
Wylfa’s Site Director, Greg Evans, received the sword, which is one of only 40 presented each year and the first ever to be given to a UK nuclear power station.
Greg said: “As you would expect, safety and human performance are at the very core of everything we do at Magnox North, so being recognised amongst the best companies in the world is very special.”
Greg added: “The British Safety Council audits, which are part of the awards process, gave Magnox North the opportunity to benchmark its culture of ’safe delivery’ against organisations outside the nuclear industry and have been a useful source of learning to help us improve performance in this vital area.”
