A major milestone in the defuelling of the four Chapelcross Reactors was reached this week when the first M2 flask of fuel containing 116 elements left the site for reprocessing at Sellafield.

Over the next three years, between 270-300 flasks will embark upon a similar journey until all 38,075 fuel elements are removed from the reactors at Chapelcross.

Tim Dunham, Chapelcross Defuelling and Operations Manager said : “This is a fantastic achievement to get to this stage after five years of work and it is a testimony to the hard work and dedication of the Chapelcross team who made this happen”.
