In a 3 year business report published today by the NDA, the report states that “at £8.44 billion over three years (2008/09 to 2010/11), our budget includes the highest ever level of Government spending on nuclear decommissioning” .
The report also says that income generated from the sale of land for the new nuclear building projects, will help to fund decommissioning projects.
“In January 2009 we advised our intention to nominate land near Sellafield and Bradwell for consideration under the Government’s Strategic Siting Assessment process for nuclear new build. In due course we also expect to do the same for land near Wylfa and Oldbury. The NDA has no remit or interest in building new nuclear power stations, but we have a public duty to secure the greatest value from the disposal of assets to fund our ongoing decommissioning mission. Under all circumstances the responsibility for taking the sites forward through planning and development stages will become the responsibility of the new owners.”
