Bridging The Energy Gap will bring together engineers with a stake in power, finance providers, developers and utilities companies to identify upcoming opportunities in energy engineering and construction. Focusing on the work which needs to be completed between now and 2015 to keep the nation’s lamps alight, the conference will clarify policy and delve into the likely energy mix of years to come.
Clarifying policy and identifying opportunities in near-term energy engineering and construction. Between now and 2016, the UK faces the prospect of a significant energy gap.
The Large Combustion Plant Directive dictates that many power stations must be shut down by 2016. Renewables, carbon capture and storage (CCS) plants and nuclear stations could take even longer to go online.
Experts are predicting the UK could be required to reinvest in fossil fuels. This would lead to vast amounts of near-term work in power station construction and engineering.
“Britain desperately needs an electricity mix which is balanced. But time is running out, especially in electricity generation, where companies are gearing up for the biggest wave of investment for several decades.”
From CBI report “Decision Time”, July 2009.
In addition to the work available in power station construction, the transmission network will need to be upgraded, and quickly.
The opportunities for engineers and contractors are mounting. Attend Bridging the Energy Gap to uncover these and focus your business development efforts accordingly.
