The sale of UKAEA Ltd, the commercial arm of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, to Babcock International Group has been completed.
This follows the announcement on 18 September 2009 that Babcock had reached an agreement with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority to acquire UKAEA Ltd, with an expectation that the transaction would close by the end of 2009.
UKAEA Ltd brings proven capabilities in waste categorisation, decommissioning of high hazard facilities, encapsulation and storage of hazardous materials and transportation of waste, which are applicable to both the civil and military sectors. UKAEA Ltd is also the parent body organisation responsible to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority for the decommissioning of sites at Dounreay in Caithness, Harwell in Oxfordshire and Winfrith in Dorset.
