sellafield-ltdSL team and contracting partners start New Year by celebrating a decade of safe working.

The Solid Waste Operating Unit Project and Construction Team, has clocked up over 10 years of working without a lost time accident. The team from the waste effluent disposition directorate includes Sellafield Ltd, main contractor and sub-contractor personnel.

This is a major achievement for the whole team, especially given the diverse nature of the works ranging from small maintenance jobs to larger complex project work including Engineering Drum Store 2 main build, waste treatment complex silo refurbishment, Engineering Drum Store 3 and the Waste Handling Facility.

 Phil Bound, construction manager said:

“This is a major achievement for the whole team, especially given the diverse nature of the works. The challenge ahead is to continue safely delivering our projects and engineering tasks for the operating unit. We must maintain our close team working relationships with our contractors to ensure standards and expectations are met.”

Many personnel have been involved in delivering this success including project managers, engineers, and designers with the numbers ranging between 20 to 120 personnel each year depending on the size of each project.

Phil added: “This fantastic safety performance has been delivered in parallel with meeting schedule and cost performances while also delivering high quality workmanship across the portfolio, including maintenance tasks over the last five years. My personal thanks and well done to those involved who made this happen.”

Dave Owen, project programme manager said:

“All credit to every-one involved over the years. The key to success has been down to effective team work with our contractors, subcontractors and the operating unit. This is a tremendous achievement over a sustained period which has included some major build projects. We must now move forward and safely deliver our ongoing commitments.”
