Atkinspress release

Atkins has been named in the new Times Top 50 Employers for Women listing. The listing recognises UK organisations which are making the most of women in their workforce and will be reviewed annually.

Atkins’ UK HR director, Sue Cooper, said: “Our achievement in featuring among the top 50 companies reflects our commitment to making Atkins a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and build a successful career.

“Our organisation is a multi local company – we assemble teams that cross geographical and cultural boundaries and recruit from most parts of the world. We believe that the different viewpoints and experiences of a diverse workforce offer best value to our clients and to our individual employees.”

Julie Templeton, one of Atkins’ rising stars, is an engineer in Atkins’ water and environment business.  Her goal had been to achieve chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers since she joined as a student member at university ten years ago.

Since starting at Atkins six years ago when she joined the Atkins graduate development programme, Julie has achieved the ICE chartership and won the ICE Karen Burt Memorial Award for 2010, a cross-engineering prize to encourage women to professional status. Awarded by the Women’s Engineering Society, it is presented annually to a high caliber newly-chartered female engineer in any discipline, who has demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of her profession.

Julie said: “My line managers have provided great opportunities for increased responsibility in project work, allowing me independence but providing me with support and assistance when necessary.” The company’s support and graduate development programme has enabled Julie to achieve her goals and will continue to support her in advancing her career.
