The largest single building at Bradwell nuclear power station is being demolished over the next few weeks. This landmark event is being filmed by a static camera on the site, and you can watch the progress by clicking here: http://www.magnoxsouthsites.com/bringing-the-house-down

The building, originally constructed in the 1950s, is being stripped of its metal sheeting, revealing the main structure of the building which is then demolished using high reach excavators.

The demolition marks a significant milestone in decommissioning the site, which ceased generating electricity in 2002.

Nigel Monckton, Head of Communications, said: “it’s great that we are able to share this landmark event.”

He added: “Decommissioning work at a nuclear site tends be a very gradual and carefully controlled process, but this project is relatively fast moving and dramatic – so it’s a great opportunity to show the progress Magnox is making on decommissioning the UK’s first generation of nuclear power stations.”
