mxl_logoBradwell Site’s turbine hall demolition project has come to an end, ahead of schedule and below budget.

The site’s former turbine hall has now been totally demolished, with 12,000 tonnes of waste removed from site, 92% of which was recycled. In excess of 130,000 man hours were worked on the project without a lost time accident.

Graham Cotton, Magnox Project Manager said: “It was one of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on. Contractors Erith, who carried out the work, are a good contractor to work with and I am so pleased to have delivered such a significant project successfully, and with a wonderful team to make it happen.”

The turbine hall was constructed between 1957 and 1960 and was the same size as a standard football pitch.

Andy Dyson, Erith project manager said: “The project was very challenging and we had a good team to work with. Everybody contributed; it was the right team, right place, right job.”

The work forms part of Bradwell’s commitment to decommission the site and represents a significant milestone along that path
