Dounreay's Plan for New Construction Work

Dounreay is holding a special event for contractors with an interest in three major new construction projects.

The new facilities are the backbone of the work that needs to be done to demolish the remainder of the site and get all the radioactive waste into a form that is safe for long-term storage or disposal.

Construction work on the first of the major new plants is scheduled to begin next year.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority wants companies to come up with plans showing how they would complete the clean-up if they were in charge of Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd. Later this year, interested companies will be given details about all the work that still needs to be done to do this. Each company then will have about a year to come up with their plan.
