EDF Energy to spend £30 million to mitigate impact of preparatory works at Hinkley Point C

Support for local housing, leisure facilities, transport and local ecology schemes are just some of the ways Somerset residents will benefit from a £30 million package from EDF Energy.

The company has signed an agreement with West Somerset Council and a local landowner which will see the energy company providing £30 million to mitigate the impacts of the works to prepare the site for the proposed Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.

Part of Bridgwater College, near Hinkley Point which houses the Magnox South Decommissioning Skills Centre at Cannington, was the location for a special event recently, when the chairman and chief executive of EnergySolutions, Steve Creamer, flew in from America to present certificates to the company’s first achievers of the City & Guilds Nuclear Decommissioning NVQ Level 2.
