University of Cambirdge work with industry to educate nuclear leaders of tomorrow

Some of the biggest companies and organisations in the nuclear industry are lending their support to a new course which will prepare the engineers and scientists of tomorrow for incidents such as those recently witnessed in Japan.

 

Despite the recent, unprecedented events at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, global nuclear investment appears likely to continue after a period of careful consideration of the lessons that need to be learned. In the UK, the Government has commissioned a review.

Babcock Commits to Nuclear Skills Passport (NSP)

Babcock sign up to Nuclear Skills Passport (NSP)Babcock, the UK’s largest nuclear site management, engineering and support services organisation, has committed to implementing the Nuclear Skills Passport (NSP) across its activities in the UK, supporting the National Skills Academy for Nuclear in the launch of the scheme. Babcock’s managing director Nuclear, Roger Hardy, sealed the agreement in a meeting today (Thursday 17 March) with the National Skills Academy Nuclear’s chief executive Jean Llewellyn, when he signed the NSP Company Charter. Nuclear Island gets funding go-ahead

The innovative employer-backed Nuclear Island skills project is being moved to the next stage following a successful funding bid by Cogent and Imperial College London to the National HE STEM programme.

This will see the immediate development of a Nuclear Island module developed in partnership with Imperial College London in association with universities across England and Wales. A trial will take place in June, with a view to roll out next Spring. Read it all..

Nuvia – Cammell Laird nuclear new-build alliance

Two North West companies Cammell Laird and Nuvia are announcing an ambitious partnership agreement today which aims to ‘catapult’ them to the forefront of the UK’s multi billion pound new nuclear build programme.

The agreement will see Merseyside based Cammell Laird and nuclear engineering specialist Nuvia Limited, based in Risley, Warrington, join forces to bid for contracts for the fabrication of heavy modules and components for new nuclear plants. Read it all..
