New Managing Director At Sellafield

A joint statement was issued today by Nuclear Management Partners (NMP). Sellafield Ltd and the NDA announcing that William (Bill) Poulson has been appointed Managing Director and Chairman of the Sellafield Site Licence Company. Bill will replace Bob Pedde, the current Managing Director, who has reluctantly stepped down from his position because of a family health issue. Read it all..

Consultation to Justify New Nuclear Power Stations

The Government published a White Paper on nuclear Power in January 2008. This said that energy companies should have the option of investing in new nuclear power stations and set out a programme of actions which need to be taken by Government to facilitate this investment. One of these actions relates to Justification.  This is based on EU legislation which requires that the Government must make an assessment to ensure that the benefits of a new practice involving ionising radiation outweigh any detriments to health. EDF British Energy Deal Accepted By Shareholders

As at 1.00 p.m. (London time) on 5 December 2008 (being the first closing date of the Offers), Lake Acquisitions (acting for EDF) had received valid acceptances in respect of 644,291,988 British Energy Ordinary Shares representing 62.19 per cent. of the current issued share capital of British Energy. That, combined with its existing 26.48% stake in the firm, took its potential holding to 88.67 per cent. Read it all..

Nuclear power is cost competitive with conventional fossil fuel generation. This is true even when decommissioning costs and possible fuel price increases due to increased uranium demand are allowed for. The main constraints on nuclear deployment are likely to be the feasible build rate, which is limited by the supply of technically competent nuclear specialist engineers and demanding regulatory frameworks.
