Magnox Electric Limited Split in Two

Following an extensive programme of work between BERR, the Regulators, NDA and Magnox Electric Limited, Magnox was formally separated into two nuclear licensed companies on 1 October 2008. This final stage of Magnox restructuring supports the strategic plan for restructuring the nuclear industry published by NDA in 2005. The two new companies are Magnox South Limited and Magnox North Limited that manage the Magnox fleet of reactors on behalf of the NDA. The companies are owned by Reactor Sites Management Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary or Energy Solutions (EU) Limited.

A first for IEMA accreditation

Magnox has become the first company in the country to achieve accreditation across a multi-sited organisation with IEMA – the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

Wylfa returns to service after another successful outage

Wylfa’s Reactor Two returned to service this week, following the successful completion of its biennial outage to carry out maintenance and inspection work.

This year’s outage began on 9th April, lasting 135 days and involving almost 160,000 man hours and utilising the services of 28 contractors to deliver the work which is essential to the continued safe operation of the site. Read it all..

National Skills Academy for Nuclear launch welcomed

Magnox South joined forces with over 175 nuclear employers to support Skills Minister David Lammy and Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks in January as they marked the official launch of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN).

The Academy is the culmination of over four years work and will assist nuclear employers to tackle current and future skills requirements. Its network of regional centres, supported by a main base in Cumbria, will develop and accredit ‘centres of excellence’. Such centres will deliver training and respond to specific skills gaps identified by employers. Read it all..
