Chief Executive of National Skills Academy for Nuclear gets OBE

JeanLlewellyn - National Skills Academy NuclearJean Llewellyn, Chief Executive of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Jean has been appointed to the Order of the British Empire for her services to the Energy Industry.

Jean is a prominent figure on the nuclear skills agenda and is well respected and held in high esteem throughout the sector and government, so much so, that last year she became only the second person to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Nuclear Institute, and was the first female recipient. University of Cambirdge work with industry to educate nuclear leaders of tomorrow

Some of the biggest companies and organisations in the nuclear industry are lending their support to a new course which will prepare the engineers and scientists of tomorrow for incidents such as those recently witnessed in Japan.

 

Despite the recent, unprecedented events at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, global nuclear investment appears likely to continue after a period of careful consideration of the lessons that need to be learned. In the UK, the Government has commissioned a review.

Statement from HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations on the implications of the Fukushima nuclear accident

Office for Nuclear Regulation (an agency of HSE) has published this Press Release:

On 12 March 2011, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne, requested Mike Weightman, HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations, to produce a report on the implications for the UK nuclear industry of the accident that took place at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power station in Japan.  The purpose of the report is to identify any lessons to be learnt, taking forward this work in co-operation and co-ordination with national stakeholders and international colleagues.  The Secretary of State asked for an interim report by the middle of May 2011, with a final report in September. Magnox North and Magnox South to Reintegrate

magnox-nmxsThe Nuclear industry’s two major companies Magnox North and Magnox South are to reintegrate after just 2 years as separate companies.

Magnox Electric Limited separated in October 2008 to create Magnox North which runs Oldbury and Wylfa sites including three others and Magnox South which runs Berkeley and four other sites, and they expect to re-merge by the end of this year. Read it all..
